Restoring Teak Garden Furniture

Posted on Garden Furniture

Teak garden furniture is well suited for outdoor areas because it is very low maintenance and slightly water resistant. But it shows the initial warm golden brown color of the wood naturally gray over time. Reset teak furniture to its original golden brown color with just a few hours of work and with the help of a commercial teak reset the product.

Mix 1 cup of laundry detergent and 1 cup of bleach in one gallon of water and apply it on teak furniture with a stiff brush. Rinse teak furniture to remove all suds and dirt. Let the furniture to dry overnight. Reset the teak garden furniture to their original surface with any of the commercial quality teak cleaners available at home improvement stores.

Sand the wood lightly after using teak cleaner. Use a small electric sander to get the job done faster. Apply a coat of teak oil with a brush and let it dry for an hour before applying another coat of teak oil. Add three layers of teak oil in this way. Apply wood sealant with a clean brush one’s strokes that follow the wood grain. Allow the first coat to dry for two to three hours, and then apply another coat, cover the surface evenly.

This will preserve the natural color of teak garden furniture. These sealants also contain substances that prevent mold and mildew from growing.  Keep the furniture clear of the wet areas and out of bad weather. Teak is resistant to water and warping, but it is not a good idea to expose the furniture to water for long periods of time.
